WONDERDAG

What is Wonderdag, you may wonder...

"Wonderdag" are days of wonder and of wonders...
The word came from mixing up "woensdag" en "donderdag" (Wednesday and Thursday) , which my husband's cousin did when learning the days of the week in Dutch.

He was there when our daughter was born, and that was the first day we called Wonderdag. Many other wonderful days and moments followed, and I would like to remember and share some of these here.

creating is combining: spontaneous summer recipe

Having left my blog alone for ages, I here and now decide to merge the "normal" blog and the "tasty" blog. I'm not blogging often enough to keep multiple blogs alive, and the odd nice recipe won't hurt on my Wonderdag blog either.
Today I improvised a summer recipe and, as I liked the taste of it, decided to share:

Let's call it sautéed salad with plum and tartar.
Needed:
  • 2 tartar steaks (fry as usual, I used mixed pepper and olive oil);
  • one sweet potato, cut in slices, then in parts, sautéed in
  • olive oil;
  • one head of garlic, minced, added to the sweet potatoe after turning;
  • one carrot, thinly sliced;
  • one (or two) chicory, cut in coarse pieces;
  • one (or two) spring onion, cut;
  • one green bell pepper, cut in pieces;
these vegetables are sautéed very briefly after the sweet potatoe is done, in the same oil, and then piled onto the plate on top of the sweet potatoe. I used this order: first the carrot, adding the chicory and taking out of the pan after 1 minute; then the spring onion, adding the bell pepper and again taking out after one minute. No doubt you could use other vegetables as well or in stead, just as you like - it's improvisation :) .
On top of the vegetables I cut
  • 2 (or 3) ripe red plums
sprinkled (very moderately) with salt and pepper and then added the tartar steak on top.
The plums added a fresh, juicy and slightly acid touch which gave the dish a salaty summer feel.
Quantities are very indicative, but this would be for 2 persons, or one pretty hungry one ;-)
